Common Questions

Heritage rendering refers to lime-based render systems applied to pre-1919 buildings, listed properties, and buildings in conservation areas. These structures require breathable materials that allow moisture to move through the wall naturally. If your property is Victorian, Georgian, Edwardian, a traditional stone or cob building, or a listed building of any type, it almost certainly needs a heritage-appropriate render system. Riley's will assess the building and specify the correct system before any work begins.
Yes. Listed building work is a particular area of expertise for Riley's Pro Trowel. We are familiar with the requirements of local conservation officers and understand how to specify and apply render systems that satisfy listed building consent conditions. We work on Grade I and Grade II listed properties across Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall.
We are based in Plymouth and cover the whole of Devon and Cornwall. This includes Exeter, Torquay, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Tavistock, Newton Abbot, the South Hams, Truro, Falmouth, St Ives, Newquay, Bodmin, and all surrounding areas. We are also happy to travel for the right project.
Every project is priced individually after a site visit, because the cost depends on the substrate condition, the render system specified, access requirements, and the scale of the work. We do not quote blind. We will visit the site, assess what is needed, and provide a clear written quotation. Call 07734 808 762 to arrange a site visit.
Lime render is a traditional, breathable system made from natural hydraulic lime or lime putty and aggregate. It is the correct material for heritage buildings and allows moisture to move through the wall naturally. Silicone render is a modern, polymer-modified system that is highly weather-resistant and low-maintenance, suitable for contemporary properties. Riley's supplies and applies both and will advise on the correct choice for your building.
